Introduction
WINGS OF ANGELLS is new to market as the present owners after 12 years have decided on a change in cruising plans. This Stevens 47 designed by Sparkman and Stephens is hull #25 of the 56 built by the Queen Long Marine Co. before the design was sold and they then became the Hylas 47s which morphed into the Hylas 49s. A lot of the Stevens 47s went into the charter trade. This is NOT one of them. Only 3 owners all of whom properly maintained and improved this vessel under their individual stewardship.WINGS OF ANGELLS is distinguished from others by having a relatively new Forespar Leisure mainsail furling in the boom incorporating an electric halyard winch. Add the redundant systems i.e; dual auto pilots dual refer systems dual vhfs multiple battery charging systems and include the Genset and air conditioning plus dinghy and outboard and watermaker and you have an outstanding bluewater passagemaker very well equipped in excellent condition.Quote from the famed designer Rod Stephens: I knew the Stevens 47 was going to be fast when we designed it. Then I sailed on it during Antigua Race Week and was just delighted. Each day we showed we had it especially when we got on the wind. The 47 won six trophies in the series. And yet for all her speed the Stevens 47 is a true cruising boat with accommodations that offer all the amenities and then some. Quite an accomplishment Id say.
Vessel Walkthrough
The success of this S&S design is the result of having struck a number of critical balances inside and out. Interior accommodations strike a balance between the need for privacy and the enjoyment of open space between safety at sea and comfort at anchor. Deck layout and hardware is designed for shorthanded sailing at sea and ease of handling in tight anchorages as well as for speed around the buoys.Underway or at anchor the center cockpit is the hub of life alfresco. The raised amidships location provides the helmsman with unobstructed views of sails deck area and surrounding water. Handy placement of self tailing winches including the mainsail electric winch with its push button control makes single handing a breeze.A sturdy three leaf fold out table is ideal for hors doeuvres and drinks at sundown or lunching and dining for six. With its three staterooms two head arrangement this center cockpit can accommodate at least six if inclined. Starting forward with its double on center surrounded by storage and lockers and cubbies all finished in excellent varnished teak with obvious detail of workmanship. Next aft to port is another private stateroom with bunks one over the other and opposite is a private head with shower and sink. The very inviting and airy saloon spans the full width of the vessel with an L shaped settee to port that wraps around the dinette table with a settee to starboard.Moving further aft is a fantastic split galley which contributes mightily toward the sea kindliness and positive reputation of these yachts. There are two passageways leading aft to the owners quarters. There is also one on either side of the center line of the vessel. Through the galley area is one way and then opposite the galley is the nav station with another passageway aft through the private head.Private shower in owners head with vanity and sink and queen berth on center with beautiful finish of the custom woodworking modernized this vessel from its original layout.
Main Salon
This vessel originally was manufactured with upper pilot berths in the main saloon and along the way these two berths were converted to storage lockers in a very professional manner befitting a yacht of this pedigree. The beauty and practicality of these storage lockers is self evident once you are aboard. The pictures with this listing only really show the storage areas and shelves of what you see upon entering. Only when you open these storage fronts can you appreciate the abundant storage areas behind these fronts and because the original teak lath ceilings are still in place it looks fantastic. You can get a better idea by looking at the 19 Polaroid HD wide screen LCD TV in the port locker. Included are dinnerware sheets blankets pillows and towels. There is a custom built mast cover made to blend with the upholstery and wood finish. Fabric covers are in great shape Customized drop leaf dinette table with storage drawers under and all finished in varnish which matches the teak and holly cabin sole through the vessel. There is a bright and airy companionway on center with multiple opening ports and overhead hatches. All hatches can be opened and closed with their custom covers in place.
Fore Cabin & Master Stateroom
The owners accommodations aft include a spacious double berth on center in an island configuration hanging lockers and a private head even larger then a similar one forward with access from both stateroom and salon. Storage abounds throughout this cabin with drawers lockers and cubbies. On either side on the berth are custom storage areas within reach of the bunk mates. Overhead hatches and portholes generate a lot of natural light and fresh air.
